Pollution
01
Plastic production and usage? Not enough recycling? Poor waste management? Culture? Experts cite many various reasons our oceans and waterways are polluted and dying, and the Oceanic Society states, “between 4 and 12 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year—enough to cover every foot of coastline on the planet!” Sadly, there’s not much good news on the horizon, and oceans are expected to continue to degrade and die in 100 percent increments each decade. Unless something is immediately and drastically done to alter this course, we can expect a radical decline in populations of sea turtles, whales, seabirds, fish and coral reefs, and expect hundreds of species to become extinct in the near future.
